Roulette Home Depot
I don’t know what it is, but I’m obsessed with doors! I’ve been known to stop in my tracks to photograph a door. A colored door, an old door, an ornate door, a closed door, an open door! The only answer that comes to mind as I try to define my love is, wonderment and curiosity What’s on the other side? Are the people that live there reflected in the door style? Does the color mean anything to them? How old is it? Are they just living with the door until they can make their dream of a dutch door come true….
Maybe its the old saying, “when one door closes, another one opens.” I like to think that I’m optimistic in believing that not all doors are meant to open for ME. Over the years I’ve learned that when things don’t work out the way I hope, it’s for bigger reasons unknown to me at the time. God, the universe, a greater being, my angels, whomever, but somebody has always had my best interest at heart in that way. Things always work out the way their supposed to. Another of my favorites, “If it doesn’t open, it’s not your door.”
All this to say, we painted our doors in the hallway and I love them!!!! I never knew something like painted doors could make me so H A A P P P Y Y!
About a year ago, we inherited old paintings from Brandon’s Omi (grandma). I had the idea to hang them in the hallway and create an art gallery. Once I hung them, they just did’t bring me joy the way I hoped. I lived with them for a bit and then started mixing in some of Violette’s paintings. I realized what I didn’t like was how dark and muted they all were. I love vibrant colors and that’s what I was trying to achieve by adding Violette’s art. It just wasn’t enough.

I contemplated painting the ceiling in a bright color and came across a photo of a painted door, and the idea was born! Now the real difficult decision was, what color do I pick? As I searched for paint colors on pinterest, I pinned so many random colors! Not making life easier at all. I ended up just creating another board of wishful plans left on yet another to-do-list.
I asked Brandon to help me pick and that didn’t really work out. He text me one day when he was at Home Depot buying supplies for a job and asked if I liked a paint color he found. I didn’t like it because it wasn’t vibrant enough. That’s when the first door opened to my painting dream. (You see what I did there?) I didn’t like the one he found, that time, but I asked him to keep checking and to buy any bright colors he found.
Home Depot Discounted Paint
Armoire Sur Roulette Home Depot
In case you didn’t know, Home depot has a rack in the paint department with discounted paint. It’s paint that people ordered and are either mistinted or not the color the customer requested. I personally remember ordering Black paint and the person helping me decided to make Jet Black. That little added word created a reject paint that I didn’t want but some lucky person would score on a color they liked for super cheap!
Typically a quart of Behr Premium Plus Paint costs around $15 each. Over several months Brandon collected paint and for under $20 I painted four doors! He bought quarts so obviously those are cheaper. We scored! He paid $2ish for each quart and around $9 for a gallon.
The one disadvantage of playing paint roulette is that the sheen is not your choice. You typically want at least a semi-gloss finish for doors because their considered a high traffic surface. Unfortunately, we will have one of each, satin, egg shell, semi-gloss and hi-gloss! The good news is, three of them were premium plus grade and one is stain-blocking. I also used very little paint so if we have to touch up any spots, I have plenty of paint left. (I painted one side of each door)
I posted on my Instagram stories what I was going to do with the doors and showed the random colors I had and the response was amusing. People were concerned in my choice of color, which by the way I had nothing to do with, Brandon chose the colors. Which he didn’t really choose either, the reject paint god chose for us! I got scared emojis and I can’t wait to see comments! I think that was code for you’re crazy, those colors are not the business, but I’m here for the train wreck!
Well, here is my little piece of rainbow heaven in all it’s glory. I love it!
Paint is not forever, don’t be afraid to try something different. If you hate it, paint over it!
I feel like Pocahontas when I “Paint with all the colors of the wind.”
I hope everyone loves my juxtaposition of vintage and modern art mixed with color goodness and a touch of brass! Let me know what you think in the comments.
Thanks for reading!

Veronica
p.s. Now that I see the final images, I’m reminded of how much I hate the baseboards and door casings, they came with the house. Added to my honey-do-list!
Behr Paint colors used, well 2 that actually have a label are:
Citrus Zest (Yellow)
Lime Pop (or as we call it, Mike Wazowski Green)
