Season four of The Crown is here, and the story of the original wild child of the royals – Princess Margaret, played by Helena Bonham Carter – has enraptured fans.

Viewers have finally been given a glimpse into Princess Margaret’s family life, as a mother to her two children, David and Sarah, with her ex-husband Antony Armstrong-Jones.

Both of them appear in the royal portrait that concludes season two, but don’t play major roles in The Crown season four.

David was born on November 3, 1961, at the time he was was fifth in the line of succession to the British throne, but now he is the 21st.

He went on to open a shop in Dorking where he built and designed furniture for a few years, before launching his own company, David Linley Furniture Limited.

Now, it’s known as Linley, and according to Town & Country, the brand has designed for high-profile clients like Elton John and Valentino.

Speaking to The Telegraph, he said: “I inherited my love of design from my father, the Earl of Snowdon, who was always fascinated by pushing the boundaries of an object–working out how to make it touch the ground in two places rather than three.”

He has been married to Serena Armstrong-Jones, who is the Countess of Snowdon, since 1993.

The pair have two children, Margarita Armstrong-Jones and Charles Armstrong-Jones.

Princess Margaret’s only daughter, Lady Sarah Chatto, was born on May 1, 1964 and at the time was seventh in line to the throne – although she is 24th today.

Like her brother, she went on to have a career in the arts, as a well-regarded painter and vice president of the Royal Ballet.

She was also a bridesmaid at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, and is godmother to Prince Harry.

In 1994, she married the actor Daniel Chatto, and the couple has two children Samuel and Arthur.

When Princess Margaret died of a stroke in 2002, both Lady Sarah and David started a charity in her honour – the Princess Margaret Fund – which supports stroke research.
